pitiful: "Well, I'm gonna loan you not only my name, but lend you some money as well. I'm gonna contribute to your campaign.' And that's all good. That's how this process works."

I think that is the wrong car for the analogy. It needs a little more of this.

They work well enough, I'd rather live in the US than most other places.

Politics in the US can be described as thus: Whatever either 'side' is for, the other is against. Even when both are in agreement.

Agreed. There are a few other places that are just as good (IMO) but different in some ways. There is no shortage of places that are notably worse.

Politics in the US is based on a legalized/tax deductible form of bribery called "lobbying".
And those who have the most money to bribe the most politicians usually get their way.
And that essentially means politicians are prostitutes... vote-prostitutes.
That's how the US political system more or less works as I have observed it.

The funny thing is that in most cases we all want the same thing, we just have different opinions of how that goal should be reached.

As a couple of people have already said, politics are politics no matter where you are.
Admittedly, the U.S. does it FAR better than much of the world.
Having said that, I studied politics in college and worked in the field through an internship and volunteering on campaigns for a few years. I now work in marketing for the auto industry, and I'm much happier. haha Although, I could see myself getting involved in politics again later in life, but likely on an international level with an NGO or non-profit.

Aftermarket division at one of the major automotive parts manufacturers. Although I'd love to work for either an OE or a racing company/organization one day. You?

I know. Which is why it's so hilariously hopeless that we can't get anything done.
At the moment it's really only one party that exists only to stop everything. Not that both are perfect, but we really have a few people claiming to represent a vast majority who have done nothing but state how against everything they are, but have done little positive to accomplish anything of value.
People, as in us humans not politicians, can still disagree and solve problems or fix things.

Right on. What industry are you moving to?
My job before this was working for a marketing company that handled social media marketing and online reputation management for dealerships.

Yeah, it's really a very interesting and complex system. I think the media plays a huge part in the polarizing the political realm, because their representation of the political parties is always the extremes of both sides. That is more frustrating to me than anything.

more to the development side of things, across all industries. I need to stay away from auto projects for a few years though to not violate my NDA I have here.
Man rep management for dealers is tough stuff. I stay far away from that line

Agreed.
The sad reality is if there wasn't someone getting filthy rich from all this political standstill, it wouldn't be so 'broken.'

Yeah, reading hundreds of online reviews for dealerships every day could get pretty discouraging for awhile. Eventually I just learned to laugh at it all. haha

I have always said if you need to pay someone to manage your reputation for your dealership, there is something else wrong there. A few bad reviews is typical anything else and you are doing it wrong

Oh man, some of those guys had absolutely NO idea how to manage their dealership's reputation and handle dissatisfied customers. I can't tell you how many times I had to tell a manager that attacking a customer's character on their social media pages is an absolute no-no.
I've found that a significant portion of the problems brought up in negative reviews tend to be the fault of the customer, and they're lashing back at the dealership for their own mistakes. Interestingly enough, one of my accounts was one of the top Honda dealers in the country and they got negative reviews all the time.

Subsidized gas
Loopholes for corporate taxes
Joke of a minimum wage
Bank deregulation
Ballooning healthcare costs
I'd say politics works quite well in the US. Trading more campaign dollars and personal wealth for increased corporate profits and the cost of the citizens has never been better here.

While I'll agree that the two-party model is inherently flawed, it should be noted that the UK operated under a fairly strict two-party system for years - we're in the middle of a rather messy transition to a multiparty system now right now - and went in pretty much exactly the opposite direction to the US system.
The reason - outside of the wave of right-wing dickery that seems to be sweeping all of Europe at the moment - we're transitioning to a multiparty system is that the two major parties had become so similar to one-another that voters no longer felt they had any real choice.
